We all ultimately would like to have control over our lives and often get upset when things don't go according to plan - when we don't have control. The following graphic depicts three levels of control that have a tendency to put things in perspective.
The inner circle is related to what we do have control over and that is typically ourselves and our own reactions. The reality is sometimes we don't even have control over that due to the tendency for the brain to automatically go to "catastrophic reactions" and into fight/flight in certain situations.
The second level is what we have influence over but ultimately no control - other people such as kids, the spouse, and people in general fall into this area. The idea that we control others is an illusion.
The final level on the outside is the area of no control - traffic, and the weather are really good examples as you can yell and scream and get upset and it does not change your reality.
